Hi all.
As a service to Minnesota hams and especially to hamfest organizers in
and near Minnesota, TwinsLAN ARC has created an email list especially
for sending announcements and reminders of upcoming Minnesota hamfests
to anyone who is interested in that information.
I propose to add the MNham email list as a subscriber to the
MN-hamfest-reminder list, unless I hear significant objections from the
members of the MNham list. Since one of the few things I've seen on this
list is similar hamfest announcements, I don't expect this to be a problem.
Note that the MN-hamfest-reminder list is intended to be closely focused
on hamfests and ham-oriented swap meets, not general flea markets, club
meetings, Field Day, conference or convention announcements. Those items
are not welcome on the MN-hamfest-reminder remailer, although they might
be well within the scope of the MNham remailer. Events for the
MN-hamfest-reminder list must have a significant hamfest/swap meet
component for the event to be considered for publication.
I don't expect the MN-hamfest-reminder remailer to generate significant
traffic, although it will probably generate more emails than MNham
currently produces. Again, if too many people from this list object to
my proposed action, please reply to the list and I'll abide by the
consensus of opinion.

If you wish to advertize your local hamfest, you can send an email to
the MN-hamfest-reminder list address below:
<mn-hamfest-reminder at lists.twinslan.net>
Your submission will be reviewed and approved if it meets the required
criteria. We are looking for text-only announcements with a link to a
web page or PDF file that explains the event completely. We do not
forward attachments or HTML email due to size and security concerns.
As a side issue, I'd like to hear your comments regarding if TwinsLAN
should create additional lists to be slightly more regionally focused,
such as for the Twin Cites 10 county region or northern and southern
Minnesota. This was discussed within TwinsLAN with the idea that some
people might not sign-up for an all-MN list because they don't want to
travel that far. But we eventually decided that most people would
probably not find the additional email to be a heavy burden.
If you disagree with that assessment, I'd like to hear your opinion. I
was originally in favor of a small regional list primarily for the
TwinsLAN Tailgate Swapfest and the St Paul-Mpls area, but decided that
the small additional effort to make it state-wide was justified if it
encourages more local hamfests throughout the state.
Thank you.
Doug Reed, N0NAS.
