Hi Everyone!

The Association of Emergency Radio Organizations (AERO) has scheduled a
Basic Net Operations class for Saturday March 22, 8AM, at Bloomington Fire
Station #1, 10 West 95th Street. Bloomington, MN. Send email to Dan
[email protected] to reserve a spot!

AERO is not an emergency service group. AERO is an umbrella organization
open to representatives of all emergency services groups. AERO is dedicated
to providing common minimum training standards for the local emergency
services groups so all groups have similar procedures during mutual aid
situations. The idea is to have all local radio operators trained and
knowledgeable with the same procedures so they will be effective in a major
event requiring mutual aid from other clubs. Anyone who wants to attend,
from a metro club or not, is welcome.

The Basic Net Operations class is intended to train all ham radio operators
in standard radio procedures such as would be used during an emergency
event. The class takes most of the day and starts by telling you how the
Minnesota Incident Command System works and how volunteer radio operators
are likely to be used in an emergency. The session includes display and
discussion of what items you are likely to need and what you should
consider adding to your "go kit." After lunch, we will have an "on-the-air"
drill using the principles just learned, followed by discussion and further
drill.

The Basic class does not replace the ARRL Emergency Communications course
work. Instead it expands and enhances your understanding of emergency
procedures with emphasis on practical emergency operating skills and
preparedness. Several of our instructors have completed elements of the
ARRL course and say they compliment each other well.

Even if your club or ES group has regular radio procedure training, I
highly recommend you consider coming to this class. If your club or group
does not hold regular training events, this class should be even more
important. You will probably find most of the principles familiar if you
participate in Skywarn nets or listen to police calls.

Hope to see you there!
73, Doug Reed, N0NAS.
