It states -
RAS through RAS-5 are identical except for name plates. An IF mod kit was available to convert narrow BW receiver 46080 to wide band IF BW receiver 46080A

Yes 65704 is the earliest TBX contract. TBX-8 contract dates were April 1944, March 1945, and July 1944 (?). I have no info on delivery dates.

Think we had this discussion before; I propose that the TBX-8 was never used in WW2 arriving too late. Lots of examples of its use by the USMC during the Korean Conflict (War?) but I don't think it may have been widely fielded in WW2, lots of use of the early versions but not the 8.
I have what maybe an original TBX, at least to its plate contract # Nos-65704 dated 16 March 1939 that I may have to get working for 3885 Net out at Hamvention for next year, did a WS-19 for NCS this year.

I also believe there is no difference between RAS receivers except the contract date. Lot like the TCS family. I have a RAS-5 and to compleat out the rack used a couple parts from a RAS-4 along with a couple coil packs for a RAS-1 Nos-70176 12-7-39 and it all appears to be the same to me.

Distant Relative:
Picked up a BC-197 TRF receiver that covers 100 kHz to 1.0 MHz and just suspect somehow its related to the RAS although its data plate says it was built by the "Technical Devices Corporation" once cleaned up will look good next to the RAS.

A couple attached pictures.

The TBX was used in the south pacific quite a bit during the war by the Navajo code talkers. There are a number of photographs of them in >use by the code talkers.

But, not in Phillipines by coast watchers.
Also, the photos: note that the meters are only "white - face". Thus, no TBX-8. ( Just a footnote. )
