This is CVL 27, USS Langley in heavy seas.  My dad was CMM on this ship,  When I see this pic, I alway think about him in the engine room wondering if his sea legs needed help at this amount of list or if he was bouncing off something.  This was his second tour, re-enlisting in Jan 42 after a 1926 to '32 hitch where he reached a WT 1 rate. I hope that was an oil fired ship back in that era and not coal.
