I just read in the Wall Street Journal for 24 July 2026 an article about a scammer who got $546,000 from Surfside Beach, S.C. city government.

The thing that caught my eye is that the article also says Peterborough NY lost $ 1.65 million in 2021.  The reason it caught my eye is that this city

was base for ’73 Amateur Radio’ magazine all through the ham radio magazine’s life. $1.65 million goes  long way in Russia or any other country.

It may mean never having to work again. Surfside was paying a contractor for utility work. No one, payer or payee seemed to notice the misspelling

of “wiidcatcontractors.com” and “surfsidesbeach.com”.  Nice going, guys and gals ! It pays to learn to read more than stop signs, even tho it may

be an outmoded skill.  What would Wayne Green say ? He’d have a good laugh !
