Charlie L. , thank you for your comments.
Next time at our monthly ham radio club meet, i will try to have a look at the pass-around signin sheet where ARRL membership is yes / no checked. Just for my own information. I am an ARRL member and really like paper, so i'm trial subscribing again to QST. It's very interesting how QST navigates this transition to where practically no one works with component - level projects anymore.

A DeMaw story: i once bought a 'Vietnam village radio', not the common one, but an all - black one, very similar to an MF AM boat radio you used to see. I bought this and quickly saw that the receiver board was gone. Not replaceable. I sold it to a fellow just as a "look - at" collectible. DeMaw did not sell it to me, some other person did, and seller never looked inside. I forget the exact chain of proof at this instant and i rightly feel, as you the reader surely do, that i should have the facts together, which i did at one time, and can replicate the effort, and will do, now that i remember this incident circa 1994. Note, i am not saying any shennanigan going on; it's just that somewhere along the line, with middlemen, this what you might call, important item of information went missing. Ah yes, memories now sorted: it was a Hallicrafters built TR-35.

There was an ARRL SCM in the western Washington state area, whose name i prefer to withold, altho he is no longer with us. Around 1980 A.D. i bought a really big, two man and a boy lift, gen cov receiver from Art Corbus. It was Siemens, i am pretty sure. It was too big and out of Art's interest area and i bought it from him. Art acquired it from H. L. and the story was, it was off an Italian navy cruiser. Okay. But i puzzled over the 9 pin miniature tubes. I finally came to a conclusion and told Art. Art just said, "Why, that lying son of a bitch".
That same SCM also told a couple "tall tales", fine if you didn't take them as literal Gospel truth. Perhaps i will recount those at another time and place. I do not feel any particular rancor; these are just incidents which i find interesting. We all have our particular quibbles or kinks.
