What you have is a TS-164/AR frequency meter.. You will notice that there is no battery compartment. That’s because the case – which was sometimes supplied without the frequency meter itself – was intended to be mounted alongside the BC-348 liaison receiver. The unit draws filament voltage from the 24-Volt radio bus and B+ from the receiver’s dynamotor. The rear compartment of the box contains ballast tubes that drop the 24 volts down to 6 volts and a lamp that drops the receiver B+ of 200 or so volts down to 117 volts for the frequency meter plates. A VR tube in parallel with the B+ supply acts as a voltage regulator. A clever feature is a relay which, when it senses that current is being drawn from the filaments of the frequency meter, activates the plate voltage.
