Looking at the Navy Type parts catalog, these connectors are similar to some others except for cable hole size. The 8 pin 49171 is almost the same as 49042 which is a PL-63.The 4 pin 49170 is almost the same as 49069 which is a PL-74So you might find some of those from Bill Perry or wherever. This catalog shows what equipment first used the part number, but not all uses. It includes commercial equipment numbers if there is one. Also date it was first added to the Navy supply system. Other types of components can be found atCheers,______________________________________________________________On Sun, Aug 2, 2026 at 10:52 PM hwhall--- via Milsurplus <milsurplus@mailman.qth.net> wrote:The manual shows a few different connectors on the Control Unit CAY-23278 with 4, 5 or 8 terminals. The 5 terminal one is only for the Crystal Frequency Indicator (freq meter).
The manual also seems to show the others have Navy type numbers "-49170" & "-49171". I believe a complete part number would have the manufacturer's 3-letter code in front, e.g., "CCT-49170" etc.
I feel sure that those plugs & sockets got used with other equipment, too.

I wonder if those connectors also carry different names to fit other eqpt.
At the Portland OR 'Beseda auction' of a couple years ago, there were w sets of receivers and a control box. Someone had discarded the receiver cabinets. Great idea ! They did not sell, went to God knows where.
