"BC" (Basic Component) is the thing that folks identify as the principal element of a Set, Complete, Radio kit. The BC-611 is the hand-held radio part of the SCR-536. Other elements of the SCR-536 are the BA-36 and BA-37 BAtteries, BX-48 was the battery BoX for spare tube and crystals for 5 BC-611s, and CS-156 was the canvas CaSe for the -611.

I have a PPT slide as part of a presentation I do on squad radios that lists many of the meanings for the SCR part of AN-designated equipment. If I can figure out how to PDF it, I'll send a copy as an attachment in a day or two.

Ages ago I read it meant "Basic Component",   usually a part of "SCR____" or Signal Corp Radio.

Good heavens ! I was trying to look up any info on the BC-976 direction finding radio receiver, and i saw that 'Radionerds' says "BC" means "Boxed Component" !!! Oh ? How is such an error even possible !?
Granted, Radionerds HAS been a blessed lifesaver for me at times, providing  even a manual i had zero chance of finding on my own.
