The FB groups require a photo of the offered equipment showing a tag alongside with date - - i think owner's name too. Would that disable the scam offers ? 

Have to admit, i have never been scammed, but i haven't run any want ads for decades. Maybe that was before all the morally corrupt people decided here was money for the plucking.
