I had a partner for some years who was aspiring to become a screenwriter. They are not dumb or less diligent, indeed, the opposite. They regard techies like us to be unsophisticated and immature. They write their screenplays to engage the viewer in a story rather than take them into an historically accurate recreation of the scene. A story poses an argument, offers solutions, and then resolves the conflict. Anyone who watches for deep details and is captured by them is considered an annoyance and a boor. A presentation that recalls and re-enacts past events is a tale. Unfortunately, tales are for a knowledgeable audience who wishes to re-live documented events, and are usually not commercially viable. The writers and directors are trying to straddle a line between presenting a compelling story versus a documentary reality, and are willing to offend and lose a small segment of potential viewers to best please the rest and sell tickets. They laugh at us.

I am one of the 4 people in 8 billions on Terra was upset at that scene.Thing is, the people who write these screenplays are younger, dumber, and less diligent than you. Their product is "good enough" for the intended market.-Hue Miller
