Back in pre-history (1984-1988) in Nevada,
I worked with a terrific bunch of guys deep
into the 1750 Meter "Part 15" license-free band.
We were restricted to 1-watt of output power and
a 50-foot antenna. Impossible, right?
Being out in the Nevada desert far from most noise
sources and with miles of empty land in which to run
looooong ground beverages,
Well, not only possible- I was first to break 1000 miles
copy of 8LXJ in Ohio and 2000 miles copy of TH in New Jersey,
but Mike Mideke, beacon Z2, a strictly compliant
Part 15 beacon, put me in the shade with regular
receptions of his California Coast signal, followed
some months later with CQ QSOs, to Hawaii.
If you are interested in the early work on this band,
take a look at Clint Turner's web page at:

bands from 500 KC down than either of us
imagined. The RAK tunes a bit higher than 600 KC, so DXing some
broadcast stations was fun too. Who else has gone on an LF
DXpedition, either a really remote location or even in a park?
Has anyone ever heard an LF broadcast station from Europe?
