In the mid 1980s, I took an
RAK receiver to a friends camp in the Adirondack mountains. We
put up a longwire antenna, and powered the receiver with
batteries. The camp was lighted by propane, so there was
nothing else electrical for miles around. At the time, I
didn't know exactly what I was hearing, but there was far more
on the air in the bands from 500 KC down than either of us
imagined. The RAK tunes a bit higher than 600 KC, so DXing
some broadcast stations was fun too. Who else has gone on an
LF DXpedition, either a really remote location or even in a
park? Has anyone ever heard an LF broadcast station from
Europe? It would be interesting to compare an RAK, RBA, and
BC-453 in the same place, powering them all with batteries.

Hi Everyone
For the past 2 years I've been using my RBA receiver for vintage LF/MF fun, and have logged over 200 NDBs each year. This year I decided to use my BC-453B receiver. It's been recapped, and all out of tolerance resistors (sans one....) have been replaced.
Since early November, I've logged 52 NDBs. I'm hoping to log 100 this listening season (which runs through March).
