6 volt SLA batteries are not that hard to come by, I have seen 12 Ah ones for under $20 Around here at some of the events like Gilbert or Hamvention we do a 144.250 but that’s all field activity and don’t think you will find a lot happening
on VHF AM. If you are near an airport you can channel up the receiver on the local tower frequency or AWOS channel and that’s fun.
Just be aware that vacuum tube VHF field equipment from the fifties is notoriously insensitive and under powered compared to the stuff that most have been using the last forty years. Then again lots of fun, or as much fun as you can have
with things like the URC-4 and SCR-522 has been had at events like MRCA Gilbert.

Anybody out there restore and use a MAW-1 on 2 meters? Do you use a 5VDC power supply in lieu of the batteries?
