The other thing that I now remember from that shop teacher was when holding the component for solder you are allowed to say OUCH but not allowed to move!!!

As I work on radios that are older than me ( 80) and I try to unsolder a wire from a post, I am reminded of what my shop teacher said in 1959 as I was building a power supply... He said if it isn't a good mechanical connection, it won't be a good solder joint.. Those folks who built radios for the war understood that for sure!
