Use regular bar soap to lube a zipper.  Brush off any surplus soap chips after running zipper up & down a few times.  No staining issues.

Chapstick will migrate into EVERYTHING!  It's a freaking mess, don't even try it.  I've seen one stick migrate in the heat to cover 1/3 of the inside of a sedan, causing more of a mess than the human mind can even comprehend.

There are teflon based dry-lube sprays out there, I'd look into those.
