Well, I have ignored that "suggestion" and have always found it usable despite it having been "opened" for a year or more.

I just reseal the lid, wrapping tape around the joint.

I suppose the makers could have changed the packaging for economic-input reasons since, but that is how I used to do it.

Brenda's suggestion also works for our needs.

Hi Ken –

Looks like good stuff. However, it says once you open it, you cannot use it any more. So, you have to use all 16 oz at once. 73 – Mike

High dollar? At today's rate of inflation, $9.95 for 16 ounces is not what I would call "high dollar" even on fixed retiree income.

Here is a link to the correct stuff.

Since neither of the emaIls had links or pic attached,  looked that up on the font of all things Amazoned, there are a few options including JB Weld high temp super glue. The stuff in the caulking gun tube or squeezable tube may just be high temp silicone which I have used but don't think would sustain pulling or twisting of a plate/grid cap.  The real issues is that the stuff that looks like it is real furnace cement comes in high dollar plastic tubs, enough to fix a million tubes with.
