My favorite ART-13 in the Operations Center has had its bad motor removed and auto tune disconnected. BTW the set was found buried under a table at a hamfest in Baltimore. So it was resurrected.
The 811's were removed and replaced with 12 volt bulbs. The Audio Amp was removed. And two tiny keying boards installed to illuminate the Klacking noise of K102.
So it is CW only and soon FSK. Link for keying below.
The autotune system was a pain in the ass for transport aircrews  when flying across the pond after they removed the RO.  It often failed to tune properly. BTW the BC-348 was not a problem as it  did not have to be tuned as the shore station had a lot of power and excellent antennas so it usually stayed on one frequency (channel). It could not be tuned from the cockpit anyway. The RO was missed as he was the Go-To guy for electrical problems on the aircraft.

folks. another ART13 Ive been working on has a bad autotune motor . Drawing about 15 amps, no filaments lit and some smoke coming from the motor. I killed the power right away. Has anyone bypassed the autotune circuit to make the set work without needing the autotune circuitry?  thanks Jeff N2IA
