Hi Bob. I work for a defense contractor. Wiring harnesses are still made this way even today. The only difference is that in certain applications a 3D Wiring harness board is used to run the wires. The reason is that if you take a 2D wiring harness and run it in a 3 Dimensional wiring run world, some wires will be pulled too tightly and some wires will slacken up. A good example of a 3D wiring harness was the one done for the Apollo Command Capsule, which was redone after they found massive wiring harness problems with the Block One capsules.
