I had the rare opportunity to (sadly) cannibalize a T-47/ART-13. I was thrilled to be able to look into the minds of the designers when it came to removing the wiring harness… a 3D work of art. I still have it and I don’t want to pull it apart just for the vintage wire (all still fresh, by the way).

Hi Bob. I work for a defense contractor. Wiring harnesses are still made this way even today. The only difference is that in certain applications a 3D Wiring harness board is used to run the wires. The reason is that if you take a 2D wiring harness and run it in a 3 Dimensional wiring run world, some wires will be pulled too tightly and some wires will slacken up. A good example of a 3D wiring harness was the one done for the Apollo Command Capsule, which was redone after they found massive wiring harness problems with the Block One capsules.

Hi

Folks still made wiring harnesses that way well into the 1990’s. I’d bet they still do …..
