Perhaps Robert's comments are more tongue-in-cheek then you give him credit for? Then there is the location issue, he is on the lower east coast and you are on the upper west coast. The population density in the US is in his favor. That is if the old farts are willing to travel!
More R-390As are apparently available then the demand for them so prices are indeed falling. A look at eBay's "completed / sold lists" confirms this. But it is not only R-390s, it appears that we in the boomer generation were the radio collectors and as we fade out so does the demand.
That said, it is surprising to me how much heavier the R-390 is today then what I remember! Strange how this black magic has influenced my collecting habits. Stoddart radios are a bit lighter and of similar quality. Now this observation will cause some comments!
The fate of Fair Radio is the result of this supply and demand thing, so be it. My humble radio collection brings me pleasure. I didn't collect them for a retirement stash so what happens to them when I am gone is of no concern to me. I enjoyed the pursuit and repair of these radios, that is the fun and the worth to me.
YMMV,
Jim
