Do you remember how excited you were to be on CW with a straight key, using homebrew or modified milsurp on the air as a new ham? I don't think there is a new ham alive that will ever understand what
they missed out on, as they open the box and hook their Japanese radio to a store bought dipole antenna fed by coax purchased with the connectors installed. My first was a regen receiver and a single tube TX, then an ARC 5 TX 5.3 to 7, that I found intact at the town dump when I was in single digits and held on to until l became a ham and figured out what I had. I got it to 40 meters and it was my QRO CW station.
