An accomplished ham, Steve Reed (can't remember his call) recently published an article on these in Electric Radio Magazine wherein he used two of these devices very successfully to replace all of (10) the defective heterodyne oscillator crystals in two pieces of Heathkit gear.

The result was little short of spectacular.

The devices cost $18.95 each.

I, for one, am extremely grateful for his work on these.

If original isn't needed, there are solid state replacements with a programmable range of a few hundred MHz, and they are small enough to fit within many crystal cases.  Here is an example:
