Gary

Ive stayed onboard Yorktown several times as a scouter, and contacted them in advance, and successfully visited the club station onboard.

This email [email protected]

Is on their website https://www.wa4usn.org/cars-info/

I took a radio and called them on their repeater, I think the antenna is on the highest part of the structure.

Coordinating in advance paid off as I’d never have found the ham radio club room.

Shortly after the first visit I had to have an R390 as several are on public display.    (Mine didn’t come from the Yorktown though)

The shipboard radio room is on the tour, but, not sure the ham radio station is on any tour, but I could be wrong.

Last time was in 2019 I think.

Good luck, it certainly is interesting.

Thanks,
Mike

While on the subject of museums, has anybody visited the Yorktown in Charleston?

We have scheduled vacation in Charleston this fall and plan to visit.  I am asking if the HF radio room is on the tour or is it possible to see?

Reason I am asking, we toured the New Jersey, in Camden NJ and was told the radio room was off limits, not on the tour, even after asking.
