I still remember decades ago when i went over to someone's place to look at a BC-652 for sale. I discovered that the whole 2nd floor ( top level, dynamotor) had somehow been amputated. Seller was offended that my interest immediately went to less than zero. I had the 653 transmitter at one time, but it was just too huge and heavy to keep. It still amazes me to think i carried it from the store to my vehicle. I would not try that again without a handtruck. CQ had a very favorable article on this receiver. But as attractive as the idea is, i would not move the top band to include 40M. The tuning scale is very nice as is.
