That is what my research on the Duracell showed. They were great batteries when Mallory made them and went downhill almost instantly when the company was sold. I have been buying Energizer batteries for the past few years, and tried the Coppertops again last year. Got them at Cosco and put them in my Simpson 260 meter. I then found a few months latter that the batteries still in the pack were leaking and took them back. The manager and I then went and looked at the display and found leaking batteries there. He pulled them and gave me a refund. I had forgotten that I had put them into the 260 until yesterday, my bad.

When still made by the original manufacturer, the P.R. Mallory Company,
Duracell batteries were the highest quality. Mallory invented several
of the important dry battery types, including mercury and manganese
types, and had numerous patents on alkaline types as well as battery
case designs. Mallory was a major supplier of batteries to the military
from the 1930s on. Duracell was probably the first long-life,
leak-proof metal-clad battery sold as a consumer product.
P.R. Mallory was long ago dismembered and sold off, the Duracell trade
name is now owned by the chinese, and what was once one of the very best
batteries is now the worst...
