That looks like a double conversion IF. The IF cans are 85 kHz from the LF Command Receiver.

I assume the extra can wedged in there is 915 kHz and one tube is the converter 915:85

I thought of doing this, some years back, and then thought, nah, live with it as is.

One trivia type item: the Squires Sanders SS-IBS and SS-1R have their IF at 1000 kHz.

But they get the AM selectivity only thru LC’s at this frequency. The coils in the S.S. receiver

are much higher Q than the ones in the BC-348, which are Q about 100+.
