Yes!  The Gilbert chemistry set also had instructions on how to work & weld your own glass tubing using an air tube to run the lamp hotter.  Fire!  Molten glass!!  Chemicals!!!  Apparently, they credited kids with more common sense &/or more parental oversight than today.  Maybe it's no wonder kids have little interest in science, etc., when it's been watered down & made fool-proof.  There's less excitement & sense of "I can DO things!"

I think we've all seen radio components made by Lionel,
such as their keys, and I have a couple of audio transformers
with their stylish "L" logo on the side.

But I just woke up a PP-281 power supply, which
I could call an "American Flyer".
