I've worked aeronautical mobile on 20 meters with pilots using the SSB radio on commercial aircraft. I've also heard them check in to the 14300 Mariners Net.

When I mentioned this to my wife she urged me to tell him to get off the radio and fly the plane:-)

This from “KAL 902 Is Down”,  ‘Aviation History’ magazine, January 2020, about this April 1978 incident:

“Five hours and 21 minutes into the nine hour flight to Anchorage [ for refueling; flight to Seoul from Paris ],

the navigator reported to amateur stations in Canada and Norway that he was nearing the Canadian

military station at Alert on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island”.

What is this about “reported to amateur stations” ? This means contacting amateur radio stations ?

I had not read that before. Do you know more about this ? Did anything show up in ham radio magazines ?
