This might help with the size needed:

Well done, Eugene!  WRT your question about the strain relief, you simply need a MS3420-() cable sleeve to fit into the clamp:

If you can give me the clamp ID, I may have a spare somewhere around here.  You can reduce the ID down to wire bundle size with heavy vinyl tubing or shrink tubing.  I have also seen the use of 2-3 nested sizes of the MS sleeve plugged into each other to reduce the ID.   Or, a lot of electrical tape....😁

Good news. Thanks to the unceasing efforts of Mike, KC4TOS, I was able to separate the parts.  Mike explained that the snap ring actually isn’t involved in keeping these parts together. Instead, it is used to keep the contact block in the shell. The key was some penetrating oil for a few hours and then a small hammer and a narrow but long piece of wood to gently tap the front shell out of the middle shell. And voila!

So here is what I have

As several folks have pointed out, the back shell of this is quite large. I am planning to use #8 AWG wires here. But as you can see in this photo, the strain relief clamp is too large to actually relieve any strain.

What can I do here? Is there a better back shell I should look for? Is there a part number I should search for? Anyone have something better that is taking up too much space? Hihi!

Thanks again to all who helped me figure this out and extra thanks to Mike to stuck with me on this one!

Subject: ART-13 DY-17 U10?

Hello all,

I am working on wiring up this DY-17 dynamotor for use with the ART-13.

https://w2hx.com/x/ART-13/u-10.jpg

Working to solder up U-10 for the DC input to the dyno, I have removed the back shell/strain relief to access the solder cups. The cups are pretty deep inside and so I also removed 3 screws around the perimeter that appear to allow one to remove the middle shell to give more room to access the solder cups.

https://w2hx.com/x/ART-13/u-10b.jpg (you can see one screw removed)

However, for the life of me, I can’t get the middle shell to separate from the contact block of the connector. What am I doing wrong? When I look down inside, I see something that could possible be a snap ring, but there are no places to grip the ring to retract it, and even if I use a screw driver I can’t get it to move or anything. Maybe it isn’t a snap ring.

Here is the inside:

Is there a secret to separating this?

Thanks
