I have some bits of silver from our foray years ago into lapidary. How big or thick is needed?

OUCH!  I've seen that.  Not on that part, but many others.  Always the
beginning of the end.  If you can find a good part, go with that.  If
you can re-plate, that could be an option, if you're already set up, or
can find someone.  Once, I cleaned, sanded, and soldered a thin sheet of
silver to a contact.  Dad had some silver sheet laying around, I see a
lot online, seems pricey.  Another option, if set up, turn down the
face, solder an old dime to it, turn that down to the right thickness.
