It has been a while since i thought about this, so i looked it up via internet, AI assisted i suppose, and found this:

"Imperial Year (皇紀, Kōki): Year 2596 ("96"). This calendar system starts from the mythical founding of Japan by Emperor Jimmu in 660 B.C. Because 1940 was Imperial Year 2600, 1936 was Year 2596. The Japanese military frequently used the last two digits of the Kōki year to name equipment—meaning weapons adopted in 1936 (Year 2596) were designated as "Type 96" (such as the Type 96 25 mm AA gun or the Type 96 light machine gun)."

So this radio is "Year 1936 Type 2". Looks about right, in fact, completely impressive, for the year, but showing its age by 1942. Radio electronics was moving pretty fast.
Japan did simply not have the resources to keep development up in electronics.
The latest design i have seen is 1943 A.D. This also, i think, means "Type Zero fighter plane" means design year 1940.

The next thing i did was take a giant step into the present. I did this, so anyone can do it. I went to 'Google Translate' and entered the photo of the nameplate. Herewith shown.
I really should be a little more progressive. All kinds of software aids are out there.

Years ago i saw on the desk of my employer in Seattle, "Mac" McPherson, the 'Babani World's Vacuum Tubes' and decided i had to have one. I got one, am quite happy to have
it, but - it does have at least one and probably more errors. I was trying to look up a Japanese output power tube and the number type unfortunately was the same as some
USA rectifier, which was all that was listed.

Also: i am looking for a good, usable PDF amalgamator. If it does other things too, so much the better. Your suggestions are welcomed, but maybe use my email instead of
group email. kargo_cult @ msn dot com
thanks, all.
