Besides, where would the Germans really need backpacks or FM? They did not do well on the Russian front and there was not that much action in North Africa. We on the other hand fought in the jungles on the islands in the Pacific, where it made more sense to have something like a SCR300/BC1000. - Mike

Actually, the Reich had a greater variety of backpack radios than the Allies. From the 2.5 MHz range Torn.Fu.g to the 150+ MHz FuSp.c
But, more variety does not always = better.
Yes, the Axis did use backpack radios on the East Front.
