[Milsurplus] Mystery Radio

I have seen some homebrew gear of this quality, in the 1950s there were 
many small basement and garage labs, offering kits in the back pages of 
radio magazines, and also plenty construction projects too. These were 
cases and ensembles of parts, maybe from some obscure BC-XXX 
"something",  some instructions, but they were for people who had a good 
idea what they were doing. They were certainly not Heathkits. Do you 
have any idea what frequency it is on?  The size makes me think it is 
some sort of handheld, although the batteries would be in something you 
would wear, like a vest or cross-body bag.
