I really enjoy the experience of using some comm equipment i know was used to convey important, maybe vital messages back when. I suppose for me it's a way of summoning up the past to share their experience, to relive it, or maybe it's just to commemorate it. Actually, it doesn't even need to be "vital" military comms, because i get a charge out of the 1950s ARRL "Novice Twins" set. With the mil stuff particularly, if you can get the provenance story with it, so much the better, but you usually don't. Some of the provenance accounts can be pretty damn interesting too.
A friend in Portland recently acquired a GRC-9, get this: NIB. I was astonished. Of course the provenance tale in this case is rather brief and there was no LRP jungle use.
