[Milsurplus] Getting rid of moisture in carbon microphones and other components

One easy way to get rid of moisture is using a vacuum. One can easily convert an old pressure cooker into a vacuum chamber. I did just this about 10 years ago for about $25 - $30. Just need a new gasket, vacuum gauge, ball valve and a few 1/4 inch brass fittings. The holes are already there so no machining was needed. Lowes carried most of what I used along with eBay. I already had the compressor / vacuum pump from a small air brush sprayer.Jim

Check the microphone element. Most of that older equipment had carbon composition microphones. The carbon sometimes becomes compacted. We used to take the microphone element and tap it a few time on the bench top and check it a few times to see if it was working any better.
