[Milsurplus] BC-611 question

Julyah Havel, president of the Puget Sound Antique Radio Association, Seattle based, was telling me about this very nice BC-611 she has. ( Yes, believe or not, she really likes old mil eqpt. ) The thing works; somebody in that radio club helped her build a battery adapter. But the audio is real low. I am not at all local to her. The batt voltages are all okay. I told her to check or swap out the 3S4 and then 1S5 tubes first. Are there any common 611 failure modes that otherwise might account for the low audio ?
Nicely enough, the 611 is already on 3885 kHz, and even better, she got it at the closing of a sport and outdoor goods store, and not only that, but she paid a ridiculously low price. Will forward any ideas to Julyah.
