[Milsurplus] Hamvention

My good friends who always go to Dayton and now Xenia, had an excellent
time, selling just about all the brought, including an entire S line. I
picked up some URR gear Craig, N3TPM sold me and brought to Xenia from PA
and my buddies hauled it all back back, saying if they had not sold almost
out, they might not have had enough room to bring my stuff back, which I
have yet to go over to Clyde, NC and retrieve. But they did say, as they
have for several years now, there are a lot of new hams that have no clue
about vintage gear or milsurp and they answered more questions about, "What
is that?" so often it was sad. One fellow even picked up an FT243 and
asked what it was. They might as well be looking at the dinosaurs in the
museum. They have no basis in ham history and for a lot of years our
national organization has been pretty adamant about wanting us to go away.
You hear them on the air, they bought their dipole ready made, they use
words like 'contact' and 'base station', but hopefully they will assimilate
into the real hobby without a keyboard.
