[Milsurplus] Opinions on comm receivers ?

There are readers here who know a lot more of the Walt Hutchins story, he the author of Electric Radio magazine articles "Electric Radio in Uniform", which were truly wonderful articles, but these folk won't post, so i impudently step forward. What i was told was that W.H. somehow developed a snit about the ER readers "not being real 'hams' ". I do not know what inspired that take. Maybe the marriage took him to other priorities, but it seems odd to just suddenly dump what seems a major life interest. But those of us who have been in clubs for years have seen unfathomable snits or sudden changes of direction take place. On the other hand, you have people like you or me, who saw some item of military electronics when we were young, and were hopelessly lifetime fascinated. There could be worse pursuits.
