That was my experience with the LF FT-241 xtals also.
Maybe  decade+ ago, someone on the 'Tetrode' boatanchors group found a storehouse of these rocks. A few of us bought a quantity each. What a find ! Except, NOT. The fail rate was not as high as yours, but was somewhere in 60 - 75%, and steadily  increasing !  This event is immortalized now as "The Great Crystal Caper" in obscure ham lore.
So, mine went to a military vehicles guy, for completing looks - only crystal storage boxes.
That learning experience also gave me a revised view of the couple HB SSB filter assemblies i had acquired "somewhere".
