Around 1977, when i was working in a surplus store in Seattle, i met a customer who had some radio transceiver ( 618T ?? ) he had recovered from a USAF crashed plane
on the Olympic Peninsula. He said he "got there first", apparently before any investigation, and thus, no one to stop him. No word on the crew, so maybe they all got out okay,
or this concern was already taken care of.
Jack Strayer of Bellevue, WA, 1980s had a basement set up like a radio room and he had lots of stories, having seen a lot of classic radios in situ. On one wall he had displayed hung
up a 50 cal machine gun from some air crash in the California desert. The barrel was obviously bent, so probably the ATF ( right name ? ) wouldn't be upset about that anyway.
I noticed after a light plane crash landed here in Newport on the beach near the jetty, the plane was surrounded by yellow tape and some fellow was camped out in a tent
near the plane. With no restroom or water source anywhere near, that had to be a lot of fun. The fellow told me he was there to prevent tampering or vandalism, as the plane
was going to be hauled somewhere to investigate the supposed engine failure and the pilot's possible cause of the accident.
