[Milsurplus] Advice on rust remover

Several people have told me they use citric acid (purchased as a powder and dissolved in water) to remove rust.  These restorations involve tools and parts being soaked in the citric acid solution for some hours (overnight perhaps).  
The photo and video results have looked quite good.  I imagine the odor is low or pleasant and the toxicity is nil.   Cost seems low too:
