The 6AQ5 transmitter in the article seems to be about the same as what's in the CONAR product. Voltage doubler power supply.
Looks like B+ when the voltage sags with keying is about RMS x 2, about 250 volts, so current is about 60 mA. Efficiency is not 
that great 6 / 15 watts, but we aren't worried about efficiency in this rig. One thing i liked is that they push the power transformer,
which is rated 50 mA at 125 volt. The only thing i might try is to change the neon output indicator circuit to do a dual job, generate a 
keying sidetone also. If i remember right, the RS-6 USAF transmitter does this.
