I can believe it. I remember studying for my Novice exam and there was an emphasis on preventing chirp and key clicks. These transmitters were bare bones design. We were supposed to append the RST report with a C or K if we detected it.

One of my crystals produced chirp with my rigs. I received a report form an Official Observer. It's around here somewhere.
