I recently bought the CONAR sets; something i would not have done except it was available locally and so, no shipping etc. 
The mention of the crystal eating got my attention. If i keep the sets, i'll be sure to figure out how to lessen the load on the
crystal. It occurred to me, maybe i could put in a filter choke in the HV and have a choke input filter. The loss in B+ is just
not any big deal at all to me. 
For some odd reason, the subject reminded me of many years ago, i saw on a restroom wall, the written admonition, 
"DO NOT EAT TOILET CRYSTAL".  That referred to those dissolving blue disk things.
