[Milsurplus] Identify this RCA LF rec ?

RCA used the designation AR = Amateur Radio for a lot of stuff that was 
not "commercial" product.  As a matter of fact the original Armstrong 
superheterodyne broadcast receiver was designated AR-812

RCA introduced the screen-grid (tetrode) vacuum tube, a superior RF 
amplifier, in 1927 as the 222.  Almost immediately they brought out one 
of my favorite receivers the AR-1496 a short-wave TRF-autodyne.   This 
was a forerunner of radios like the National SW-3.   Some videos of my
