I've seen it the woven copper stuff, don't know the name, was common for 
kite, and balloon antennas in the wars.

I'm curious what's wrong with stainless?  I use 1/4" stainless steel 
wire rope for for my two inverted V's.  Ten years, no issues.  Also, 
175' 1/8" stainless longwire for field use.  So far, it's been the best 
I've ever used.
