If you're going to open burn planes, you probably start with captured enemy planes, and i don't see any evidence that in Europe captured German planes were just burned.
Open burning is not very efficient either, for harvesting metal. I suppose in Japan, it was wanted to get rid of the aircraft stock ASAP. ( A question tho: so why are Japanese
aviator helmets and microphones so rare ? )
Remember that photo of German aircraft parked in a field in Denmark, or Northern Germany, with cows grazing around? I'm quite sure those planes weren't burned.
Anyway, burning aircraft on any paved airfield makes a hell of a mess.
