That reminds me....some years back the Portland Oregon newspaper had an article about Claire Phillips, an American woman who
pretended to be of Italian nationality, so she could stay out of Japan's camps, and she smuggled medicines, money, and messages
to the American POWs before she was captured and tortured. I looked up her book, "Spy in Manila", and then watched the 1951
movie of the same story, "I Was an American Spy". In those years, the movie might have qualified as legitimate entertainment,
but as you can imagine, now it just seems pretty thin stuff. Anyway, i recall one scene where the resistants are unloading a "spy
radio", which is a WIreless Set No. 19. I thought, man, i'd hate to have to lug that around, particularly the dynamotor. But i
suppose the No.19 set was very available - many even department stores were selling the whole packed set.
