It is with a heavy heart that I report another old timer in the military
surplus community passed away early yesterday in Tallahassee FL.  He is
survived by his wife Angie.  He and Angie retired to Florida, primarily
to be near family, after long careers in Civil Service in Port
Hueneme/Point Mugu outside of Oxnard CA.

Ray was a ham (K5FKT, originally W6RIC), and a prolific documentarian of
the surplus radio equipment that began to come on the market in a wave
starting in the 1980s.  He wrote guides to understanding nomenclature
systems and contract numbers, as well as about pieces of equipment
themselves.  He was a dear friend, and among other documents sent me a
voluminous paper copy of NAVSHIPS 900, 109 (List of Type Numbers
Assigned to Naval Equipment) that he was able to copy from August Link's
enormous collection.  With August' permission, Nick K4NYW kindly scanned
it and placed it on his website for everyone to use.  It's there today
primarily because of Ray Mote.

Vy 73 and RIP, Ray...
